SpheriEarth won the 2nd prize!

Supported by the SRH Gründer-Institut, two students – John Iwueke in Water Technology and Shraddha Pawar in Applied Computer Science – are developing an app with the goal of improving the world a bit. Today, SpheriEarth is an online platform that creates mobile games solely to motivate players to learn about the environment and join in on restoring our increasingly degrading planet (read article Move&Müll of September 2020).

As we have a very active partnership with UIW Texas, our university was invited to take part in the Business Startup Challenge with a 1st prize of $10,000.

"Our faculty of business has a very trusting long-term cooperation with UIW", reports our Vice Rector Markus Breuer. "It is a great and very exclusive honor that our students can take part in the challenge." For participation, the teams must submit an executive summary of their business plan, including detailed information on goals, services provided, target markets and plans for the $10,000 prize money.

On December, 4th, the teams presented their business plans to a group of judges from the San Antonio business community via Zoom. And SpheriEarth won the 2nd prize out of a total of seven teams who made it to the finals in the competition:

"Being rewarded for our hardwork is great because the journey as an entrepreneur is a very lonely one", John Iwueke says. "No one believes in you until your product is ready. We dedicate the award to everyone who has believed in us and most importantly our team for the hardwork. We are glad we could convince the judges with our project. We were also confident since we have been working on SpheriEarth for almost eight months now." Shraddha adds: "I can´t believe we’ve come  this far. This day will always be one of the significant ones for SpheriEarth. Our journey only makes me think that bad times don´t last long."

With the money the team wants to advance their startup idea and concentrate on getting more game developers.
