International Student Ambassador

Started in 2018, the Student Ambassador Programme has been an opportunity for students to take an active role for the international student community at the university. Guided by the International Office, the Student Ambassadors have the opportunity to volunteer for activities such as:

• Marketing, i.e. testimonials, videos, blogs, social media content, fairs, open house days
• Events, i.e. Semester Start on April 1 & October 1, excursions, orientation, International Week, Staff Week, Study Abroad Fair
• Communication, i.e. pre and post arrival advisory role: official university whatsapp groups, student helper booth, email  

The programme begins with a brief training to provide deeper insights into the university history and programmes as well as connect the Student Ambassadors with each other and the International Office. This is followed by various opportunities to participate in university activities, such as the semester start or International Cultural Club. Then as their skills and knowledge develop, our Student Ambassadors are encouraged to take the leading role and add their own contributions, activities, and ideas. Essentially, the possibilities are not limited by what has been listed but rather are open to the desires of the Student Ambassadors and needs of the international student community.

As the position is voluntary (i.e. unpaid), the Student Ambassadors do not receive monetary compensation, however, they are rewarded in other ways for their hard work and dedication.

• Firstly, it is an opportunity to tap into the universities wide international network – working with International Office, faculties, partner universities and students has its benefits!
• Furthermore, employers highly value volunteer work experience in Germany. Upon graduation, the volunteers are awarded a certificate at their graduation ceremony, including personal recognition on stage. In addition, the Student Ambassadors are issued a work reference, outlining their skills, such as intercultural communication, project management, marketing, etc. depending on their contributions. 

You are:

• Enrolled at SRH University Heidelberg as a student at least until September 30, 2023
• Comfortable speaking, reading, and writing in English at least at a B2 Level (German skills are not required but are a bonus!)
• Open-minded and accepting of other cultures, nationalities, ethnicities, races, genders, religions, and lifestyles
• Enthusiastic and well-spoken in digital and in person events
• Able to commit to volunteering 5-10 hours a week, available the days leading up to and after the semester start– note, we understand that academics comes first! We simply expect time management and communication on your part.
• A self-starter, receptive to feedback, and interested in your own personal and professional development
