The STIBET scholarship gives students wings

26 international students at SRH University Heidelberg have received a STIBET scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year, recognising them for their exceptional academic performance or their high level of social or international commitment.

26 STIBET scholarship holders – there have never been so many. And almost all of them attended the award ceremony in the foyer of the university’s main building, naturally in compliance with all the necessary public health recommendations. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) make available these scholarships, funded by the Federal Foreign Office, to international students in the final year of their degree. They must either demonstrate outstanding academic performance or exceptional commitment to service in a social or international context, such as supporting fellow students, helping out at events, or getting involved in the community in and around SRH University Heidelberg. “We are proud to have so many fantastic students,” said Professor Dr. Markus Breuer, Vice President of the university. “This programme is important, especially in times like these,” he continued. “But it’s not just the money that should make you feel proud of this scholarship. Add the programme to your CV – it’s a very good opportunity for your career.” Breuer thanked the International Office team, especially Iris Ulbrich, who has worked hard in organising the scholarships.

This year, we are awarding 26 STIBET scholarships to students:

  • 8 x Master’s in Applied Computer Science
  • 8 x Master’s in Big Data & Business Analytics
  • 5 x Master’s in International Business and Engineering
  • 3 x Master’s in Information Technology
  • 1 x Master’s in International Management and Leadership
  • 1 x Master’s in Dance Movement Therapy

Happy scholarship holders

All students are in their final study year. In order to get a Graduation Scholarship, academic performance is the most relevant requirement; for the Scholarship for Highly Committed Students, applicants must demonstrate social commitment and have this confirmed by a staff member of SRH University Heidelberg. The selection committee consists of a team of colleagues from the relevant faculties and from the International Office.

All scholarship holders who graduate in 2021 will receive a scholarship of € 750 per month for three months totalling € 2,250, and all applicants who graduate in spring 2022 will get a scholarship of € 750 for four months, thus totalling € 3,000.

Yash Pandey, student of Applied Computer Science, was very happy about the scholarship: “As an international student, it’s not easy to focus on my studies and at the same time do a part-time job to manage my everyday expenses.

Receiving this scholarship during a pandemic is a blessing. It takes a huge burden off my shoulders. It also tells me that I have been successful in fulfilling my duties as a student ambassador. I am honoured and grateful to SRH for this scholarship.

His fellow student, Soumya, added: “Being able to achieve top grades in spite of being away from my family, especially my six-year-old daughter, was emotionally tough.

I hope this award inspires my daughter to realise that age is just a number, and that it’s never too late to spread your wings and fly above to achieve your goals and dreams.

Scholarships for 2022 as well

STIBET scholarships will also be available in 2022 for students graduating in autumn 2022 or spring 2023, Iris Ulbrich reported. However, she also pointed out that “the number of scholarships and the monthly rates might vary, depending on the amount of STIBET funding given to Germany’s universities by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).” For any questions, she can be contacted by email at iris.ulbrich@srh.de.
